This elegant creature's creamy white fur serves as perfect camouflage in its native habitat of the snow-covered mountain peaks of Central Asia. Even Hemingway was inspired to write of snow leopards in the Himalayas. Yet it is that very camouflage that has made the snow leopard the target of poachers, placing this graceful and beautiful animal on the endangered species list. Interestingly enough, while lions and tigers have their own distinctive roars, the snow leopard has no roar at all.
