The Spirit of Magic
As youngsters, wasn't the most enjoyable part of our lives spent flying and fantasizing? We wanted to be Superman - to fly and have x-ray vision. We wanted to become comic book or movies heroes. We were a cowboy, flew in a spaceship or scoured the bottom of the ocean (bathtub) in a submarine. Remember looking in the mirror and seeing a pirate, ballerina, nurse or policeman?
Getting older meant acting more grown up; fantasies and fantasizing were just for kids. Reluctantly, most of us set aside everything that was make believe.
The magic of Siegfried & Roy gives us back a tantalizing promise of longer for promise. The Magicians of the Century take audiences' on a journey into their imaginations, hinting the harsh natural laws governing our lives may be illusions. And, if so, nothing is impossible.
"You could say that we have never grown up," says Siegfried. "We still dream as children do. We want to bring out the children in people; to encourage them to dream as they did when they were children. The older you get, the more dreams get buried. A person without fantasy, without dreams, is missing so much."
The entertainers feel that most people "really enjoy and perhaps even need" their perceptions shaken up now and then.
"Audiences want to be surprised, even fooled," notes Roy. "We attempt to hold them in suspense and tease them with questions: Can the laws of physics really be abridged? Or, can we convince them that the impossible has happened?"
Today's magicians must also be a dreamer. Siegfried & Roy are not only dreamers they are dream merchants. They assist their nightly sold-out Mirage audiences to dream in bold, brilliant and amazing Technicolor, just as they did as kids. They unlock that chamber of dreams buried within each person allowing and challenging them to fantasize once more.
Siegfried & Roy's performance is a captivating balance of illusions, lasers, dazzling costumes, music, humor and the ultimate in teamwork. It's an action-packed roller-coaster ride featuring an army of gold-armored warriors, and evil queen, a four-story tall fire-breathing dragon and some of the most magnificent animals - Magical White Lions and Royal White Tigers - one could ever see.
"Nothing is impossible," gleams Roy. "You must believe in yourself, believe in change and believe in the magic that's within us all."
