Our Magical Connection with Lions
Humans’ link to lions has always been magical. We seem to share a mystical bond with them even into the present. All of the major civilizations throughout time and back beyond the mists of living memory reflect this bond. Major cultures that have influenced our current civilization have had rich lion mythologies. Scour the Bible for references to lions and you discover a plethora of mentions.
If it wasn’t for Siegfried & Roy, one of Mother Nature’s most beautiful lions — the Magical White Lion – would be no longer for the world to see. It will be almost 50 years since a Magical White Lion has been seen in the wild. The stories of their disappearance are many; the reality of their being is the care and concern of Siegfried & Roy.
Today, Siegfried & Roy have 23 Magical White Lions in their trust on three continents. In a stranger twist of fate, most of them reside right here in Sin City in a place unlike any in the world.
Siegfried & Roy’s Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat at The Mirage is a palm-shaded sanctuary where the Magical White Lions, five other rare breeds of animals and nine Atlantic bottlenose dolphins reside…all living side by side in harmony with one another and with mankind.
Unlike other environments where the animals are quite a distance away, maybe not even visible, when you step into the Secret Garden you come literally face-to-face with some of the most awe-inspiring creatures on earth.
Siegfried & Roy’s purpose of the Secret Garden is to encourage awareness of its endangered inhabitants for todays and future generations.
From the beginning, Siegfried & Roy have known that it was of paramount importance to create a tranquil environment for all the members of their animal family. The Secret Garden is the culmination of the world that they have created – and maintained – for Mother Nature’s beautiful creatures. Successful breeding programs and healthy, active animals attest to the success of The Secret Garden.
Other resident of Siegfried & Roy’s Secret Garden and Dolphin Habiat at The Mirage include:
The Royal White Tigers of Nevada, thought to be extinct and now numbering more than 200 worldwide and 58 in Las Vegas; the heterozygous Bengal tiger who possess both orange and white genes, and who therefore carry the seeds of the white tiger’s future; the black panther, from the rain forests on southeastern Asia; the rare and exotic snow leopard of the rugged central Asian highlands; the magnificent White Siberian Tiger, and Gildah, a Ceremonial Thai elephant.
